You can delay it with certain Hunt Missions and one of the Base Actions, but they don't help all that much. There is a hidden timer that begins after you complete the tutorial and rescue the first VIP which resets after every Siege Mission. You need a fire arms trainer for that, or a gym trainer to boost your life and stanima. Trainers is almost a useless ability but it grants you the ability if you have a full watch tower to speed up a character that you are using for fire arms or combat.
